So you've got a great idea for an e-book, huh? That or you've recently purchased an e-book that tells you how to sell e-books, right? This is great, but do you really think it's that easy? You know, just put one of those long, really long, single page websites out into cyberspace explaining everything about how your e-book will change their life, business, or whatever, and the people will buy it. This is the theory, right?
I've even heard it said that that you don't need to know much about a subject, simply do research and write an e-book, and you'll be good to go. This is BS, my friends. All of this garbage comes from people trying to sell you their e-book. Writing the e-book is only a small piece of the puzzle. The weasels want it to seem as if writing the e-book is most of the work. Let me ask you a question, if this were true, why wouldn't everyone write and sell e-books?
What everyone seems to fail to talk about is how you are going to get traffic to this wonderful website promoting your e-book. This is the work my friends, because without traffic, you might as well not have a website! Someone said to me once, "I'm just going to buy a list of names, email them, and a percentage will buy." Again, if it were as simple as buying a list, then emailing that list and making money, why in God's name wouldn't everyone do it?
The truth is that it doesn't work this way. If you truly want to make money with an e-book (or anything else for that matter) you have to work at it. There are no magic formulas out there. The only magic formula is to work at it and bring value to the marketplace. If you're getting into the e-book game just to "make money" you're going to have real problems.
The bottom line is that you're going to have to put whatever your offering in front of potential customers and then convince them that they need your product. The truth is that putting that offer in front of potential customers is the work, and there is nothing that simple or easy about that. Selling e-books (as well as anything else on the internet) takes work my friends, there's simply no way around this 800 pound gorilla that no one wants to talk about.
